The new Facebook layout now includes a sidebar with multiple sections. Since these are always visible, here are some tips on how to make the most of the new Facebook Sidebar real estate.
While the first two sidebar sections are FIXED, displaying your “People” and “About” sections, you CAN re-arrange the rest of the blocks! If you have any apps, like a newsletter sign up or a promotional tab, I highly recommend shifting the ‘App’ section up so it will be more visible. I also suggest that you change the images on these tabs to be a bright color and/or an eye catching image so that people will actually see and click on the tabs.
To re-arrange the blocks, hover over the right hand side of any of the block headers. You will see a ‘pencil’ icon, the word ‘Manage’ and a drop down will appear with an option to ‘Manage Sections’.
Click on ‘Manage Sections’ and a pop up will appear allowing you to re-arrange the order of the sidebar blocks (except the People and About sections which are fixed)
Drag the sections to re-arrange the order of the sidebar blocks. I have moved the apps tab to the top so people will see my enewsletter sign-up
If you would prefer to showcase your photos, shift that block up instead.
Note that you are NOT able to move the About section but you CAN edit it more easily in the new Facebook Sidebar. To edit your About section, hover over the right hand side of that header and you will see the option to both manage the sections AND to ‘edit’ that section.
Remember to use your keywords in your About section so you will attract people searching on those terms!
